Aft Centering Ring * Aft MMT centering ring, showing engine retaining hardware (a blind nut with a couple of pieces of balsa as an anchor; these will be glued together and assembled behind the ring). A pair of blind nuts will be coupled with two window screen retainers to make my version of a Kaplow Clip. * 2364 x 1286 * (842KB)
Circle Construction * Hauling out my ancient geometry skills to find the center of a circle, for custom-made centering rings. * 2560 x 1920 * (1.05MB)
Nose Bridle * The nose cone's shock cord bridle assembly, to be installed in a tubing coupler. The shock cord retention bridle and the center ring-bulkhead strengthening gussets. * 1715 x 2143 * (738KB)
Nose Bulkhead * It doesn't look like a bulkhead, but it becomes one. The shock cord will attach to the loop in the bridle. * 1671 x 1832 * (633KB)

Bridle Detail * Detail of the shock cord bridle, behind the bulkhead. * 2073 x 1510 * (680KB)
Nose Bulkhead Installation * The nose shock cord bridle and bulkhead assembly installed in the tubing coupler. This will go in the aft end of a short body tube; the nose cone will be attached to the forward end. * 1613 x 1840 * (690KB)
MMT Detail * Motor mount, showing the centering ring, blind nut, and strengthening guessets. * 1775 x 1519 * (565KB)
MMT and Clips * Motor mount, stuffer tube, and Kaplow Clips. You can see the window screen retaining clips on the right (rocket aft), and the gussets. * 2321 x 442 * (288KB)

MMT and Stuffer * The motor mount tube. Note the phenolic liner to the left (rocket forward) and the Kaplow Clips and gussets to the right. * 2339 x 774 * (497KB)
Tail Cone Assembly * The tail cone is made of posterboard. After inserting some stiffening rings, I coated it with thin CyA for strength and stiffness. (The cone is about 30 cm long.) * 853 x 2444 * (478KB)
Aft Cone Assembly * Assembly detail of the aft cone (the broom). Note the blind nut threads for the Kaplow Clips, the launch lug and launch rod hole (dowel is through the lug and hole, into the cone, for alignment), and the cardboard stiffener inside the cone. * 1980 x 1813 * (695KB)
Nose Aft * Aft end of the nose cone assembly. * 1920 x 2560 * (960KB)

Unstained Nose * Nose cone (the bed knob), ready for staining. Thanks to my friend Dan Schkolnik for turning it! * 805 x 1806 * (512KB)
Stained Nose * Balse is not known for its beautiful grain, but this still stained up nicely. * 746 x 2281 * (545KB)
Nose and Tail * The bed knob and the broom: stained nose cone and painted cone tail. * 2298 x 1000 * (593KB)
Kinked Tube View 1 * While painting, the rocket fell over and the tube kinked. Well, broke, really. Yes, I was able to repair it: just sectioned and spliced. * 2554 x 1224 * (534KB)
